SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME: #TwitterYardSaleOK Thoughts
So a couple weeks ago, Greg, Rick and Eric started the Lady Sabre Kickstarter. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that the generosity of people jumping in to support these guys as they chase down a dream that’s been percolating for almost 15 years— it blew our minds.
I know many KS…

Rucka and Lark Talk the Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Future of “Lazarus” [Interview] - Multiversity Comics
Rinse and repeat, here, as I think I’ve posted this interview link once before. But in case you missed it, here’s Michael and me talking LAZARUS!
-
Digging around for more of Michael Lark’s designs and panel-type-bits from LAZARUS #1, coming out at the end of June this year from Image. The book is available for pre-order now, Diamond code APR130420.
If you haven’t seen it already, Michael and I, along with our colorist Santi Arcas, did a four-page prelude story that’s available to download for free from here.
If you’ve any interest in what we’re creating, your pre-orders would be gratefully appreciated.
Michael and I are still ironing out launch events, but thus far we have two signings in the works. One of them will be in the PNW on the Wednesday of release…
Details soon!

“Family - Prelude.”
This is the four-page short-short that Michael Lark, Santi Arcas, and I have done for LAZARUS, the first issue of which comes out this June. You can download the story at this link as a PDF, and please feel free to share the link and the PDF about. LAZARUS is published by Image.
The book is now available for PRE-ORDER from your retailer. The order code via Diamond is APR130420.
Michael, Santi, and I are very, very proud of this book.
I’ve described LAZARUS as a cross between The Godfather and Children of Men, but that’s a little disingenuous, frankly. Set in a not-too-distant dystopian future where power is now held by a handful of “Families” around the globe, it’s part action-adventure, part espionage, part soap opera. Our story centers on Forever Carlyle, the genetically engineered daughter of the Carlyle Family. As their “Lazarus,” she’s part spymaster, part secret agent, part bodyguard… basically, her Family’s secret weapon in their fight to keep what they have, and to acquire what they don’t.
The book is most definitely rated ‘M.’ There’s profanity, there’s violence, there will be sex and likely nudity down the road, but, most of all, it’s dealing with some very dark, and fairly mature (I’d like to think, at least) themes. And some of the most depraved and corrupted individuals I’ve ever seen spring from my pen.
Please, please, please consider pre-ordering this book if you’re at all interested in what we’re doing.

A Little Bit on Lazarus
From an interview Michael and I did with Daniel Glendening for CBR. This was our first “proper” shared interview on the subject, and both Michael and I were far more nervous talking about LAZARUS than I think we realized going in.
CBR sent me the interview prior to running it, which was very kind of them. I’ve been in novel-land, and never got around to going over it before they posted it - my fault entirely, not theirs.
If I had, I would’ve realized that we were using her old name “Endeavor.” A lot.
An awful lot.
We have since changed our protagonist’s name to “Forever.” There are two reasons for this change. The first is to avoid immediate comparisons with the Young Inspector Morse series that’s begun, called Endeavor.
The second reason I’m not going to tell you about, because it’s thematically crucial to the story.

There is nothing quite like the delight in seeing the first pages of art come in on a new project. Michael and I have been looking to work together on something creator-owned for years, and for that reason, if nothing else, LAZARUS is already very dear to my heart.
Michael will also probably kill me for posting this, but I’m going to do so anyway.
This is penciled on computer, and has yet to be inked; the balloon placement and dialogue font are temporary.
And yes, we settled on a new name for our hero. Forever Carlyle. It’ll make sense, trust me.
(LAZARUS will be an ongoing from Image Comics, beginning sometime in the spring of 2013.)
