Rucka and Lark Talk the Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Future of “Lazarus” [Interview] - Multiversity Comics
Rinse and repeat, here, as I think I’ve posted this interview link once before. But in case you missed it, here’s Michael and me talking LAZARUS!

Human stem cells created by cloning
I’m a couple days behind on this (the Lady Sabre Kickstarter eats time like rust on metal…), but in case you’ve missed it, this is a Big Deal.
This is a huge piece of the science that Michael and I are using in LAZARUS (on sale at the end of June from Image, pre-order now, blah blah blah, four-page short-short available here!), and when we started work on the book, this was still entirely - though plausibly - speculative.
Then I talked to Uncle Warren and he pointed me to induced pluripotent stem cells as a research line that would provide what we wanted for the character and the story. The SCNT technique being used here is a different approach, but one wonders when (rather than if) the two research streams will connect, and what those results will be.
I’m not sure I have a point other than, science! and Warren Ellis Knows Things!

Rucka and Lark Talk the Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Future of “Lazarus” [Interview] - Multiversity Comics
One of the very few joint interviews with Michael and myself about LAZARUS (coming from Image at the end of June but you knew that already right?), done by David Harper at Multiversity Comics.
It’s a fun interview.

LAZARUS promotion!
Coming in June! Pre-order!
-
Some storytelling from Michael Lark, from LAZARUS #1, due out from Image at the end of June.
You can download the four-page preview (and pre-ordering information!) here.

And on the subject of LAZARUS…
We’re trying to keep the science in “science-fiction” at least somewhat close to plausible. The image above is from a WIRED piece from last July, written by Kim Zetter, about reverse-engineering iris-identification. Kinda. With contact lenses.
SCIENCE!

If you haven’t seen it already, Michael and I, along with our colorist Santi Arcas, did a four-page prelude story that’s available to download for free from here.
If you’ve any interest in what we’re creating, your pre-orders would be gratefully appreciated.
Michael and I are still ironing out launch events, but thus far we have two signings in the works. One of them will be in the PNW on the Wednesday of release…

“Family - Prelude.”
This is the four-page short-short that Michael Lark, Santi Arcas, and I have done for LAZARUS, the first issue of which comes out this June. You can download the story at this link as a PDF, and please feel free to share the link and the PDF about. LAZARUS is published by Image.
The book is now available for PRE-ORDER from your retailer. The order code via Diamond is APR130420.
Michael, Santi, and I are very, very proud of this book.
I’ve described LAZARUS as a cross between The Godfather and Children of Men, but that’s a little disingenuous, frankly. Set in a not-too-distant dystopian future where power is now held by a handful of “Families” around the globe, it’s part action-adventure, part espionage, part soap opera. Our story centers on Forever Carlyle, the genetically engineered daughter of the Carlyle Family. As their “Lazarus,” she’s part spymaster, part secret agent, part bodyguard… basically, her Family’s secret weapon in their fight to keep what they have, and to acquire what they don’t.
The book is most definitely rated ‘M.’ There’s profanity, there’s violence, there will be sex and likely nudity down the road, but, most of all, it’s dealing with some very dark, and fairly mature (I’d like to think, at least) themes. And some of the most depraved and corrupted individuals I’ve ever seen spring from my pen.
Please, please, please consider pre-ordering this book if you’re at all interested in what we’re doing.
